Pilates Matwork is a fun full-body workout based on a series of mat-based exercises devised by Joseph Pilates using your own body weight and occasionally small equipment.
The benefits of Matwork are:
- Develop core stability and strength
- Develop spinal mobility and length
- Address minor functional movement imbalances
- Work towards flowing functional movements
- Improve shoulder and upper back strength and stability
- Improve lumbar pelvic strength and stability
- Increase muscle tone
- Lengthen and strengthen muscles evenly
- Increase joint and muscle flexibility

- Create relaxation and a mind- body connection
- A full-body fun workout
- Flowing sequences of movements can be challenging
- At an intermediate level it can be more cardiovascular than studio work
- Less expensive than studio work
Matwork classes range from 8-12 people in a group with one teacher
Matwork classes are NOT suitable if:
- You are currently injured
- You are pregnant
- You have chronic pain
- You have an a recent operation
- You have recently had a baby (less than 12 weeks)
There may be other conditions that vary in severity such as Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and MS where you will need to talk to us to see if Studio or Matwork is most appropriate for you. If you are unsure please contact us to discuss the best option for you.
Most of our classes are run as a course or a block of classes. This ensures consistency and progression. All classes last for one hour and have between 8-12 people in a class. Please contact us if you have any questions or are unsure about which classes to attend.
