“Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor.” Joseph H Pilates

Pilates is a method of body conditioning that focuses on creating core muscular stability and mobility in spine and joints. It supports a healthy pregnancy and helps to regain muscle tone after birth.
All Pilates Sanctuary teachers are experienced in working with ante and post-natal clients and have completed further post-graduate training in this area. At Pilates Sanctuary we work in a close relationship with Balance Physiotherapy’s maternity physiotherapists.
The Pilates Sanctuary Studio at Balance Physiotherapy provides clients with an individual training programme, which is tailored to their specific needs and works with resistance-based specialist Pilates equipment.
Antenatal Pilates

Antenatal Pilates is a gentle work-out that is designed to maintain joint mobility and safe abdominal support throughout pregnancy. Pelvic floor toning is combined with exercises that relieve gravital and occupational pressure and help the body to safely accommodate the subtle changes from week to week. Posture is re-assessed throughout pregnancy to maintain optimal alignment during all three trimesters and breath work is employed to create a relaxed state of mind, which paired with the strengthening programme helps to prepare for an active labour.
Antenatal women need to be a minimum of 12 weeks pregnant and have had their 12 week scan, or will need written approval from their doctor or midwife, before joining classes.
Antenatal Pilates takes place in the Pilates Sanctuary Studio, where each client receives an individual training programme that is able to address the changing requirements throughout pregnancy.
Postnatal Pilates

Postnatal Pilates is an excellent way of re-gaining abdominal muscle tone and works on the gathering of abdominals and strengthening of the pelvic floor. Classes work on your core stability and the strengthening and stretching of the legs and buttocks, arms, neck and shoulders and promote the return to a healthy, functioning spine.
The programme is designed to support you during the early stages with your newborn baby and enjoy this time with confidence in your own body.
Postnatal women have to wait a minimum of six weeks after a natural birth and up to 10/12 weeks after a C- Section, before joining class.
Postnatal Pilates Matwork is taught in a small group setting, where babies are welcome.
Maternity Classes
Classes are held on a Tuesday morning and run as a course
12pm-12.45pm
Mums must be 6 weeks post-natal or 10/12 weeks after a C-section. Babies are welcome up until the age they are crawling.
